Societe Commerciale Gabonaise de Reassurance, or SCG-Re, is a Gabonese reinsurance company and a subsidiary of the Fonds Gabonais d'Investissements Strategiques. Its core role is to manage, for the Gabonese state, the legal cession of premiums and contributions from insurance companies operating in Gabon, while also writing conventional and facultative reinsurance business in Gabon and other African markets. The company provides risk-transfer capacity to primary insurers, helping them manage large, volatile or concentrated underwriting exposures. BVMAC records SCG-Re's January 2023 introduction to the equity compartment and identifies it as the first CIMA-approved reinsurer listed on the Central African regional exchange. Its business model is shaped by insurance-market growth, underwriting discipline, retrocession arrangements, regulatory capital and relationships with national insurers.
