Togo – Emergency Assistance to Populations Affected by the Humanitarian Crisis in the North of the Country

The Emergency Assistance Project for Victims of the Humanitarian Crisis in Northern Togo (PAUVICH) is a twelve-month emergency humanitarian operation designed to provide rapid and inclusive support to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons and vulnerable host communities affected by the crisis in the Savanes Region of northern Togo. The project combines three main areas of intervention: protection and legal documentation, emergency shelter and essential household assistance, and prevention and response to gender-based violence, including women’s economic empowerment. It will deploy mobile teams to identify and register newly arrived asylum seekers, support refugee-status determination, and issue temporary and official identity documents. It will also provide shelter-rehabilitation kits and essential household items, including cooking utensils, buckets, mats, mosquito nets, blankets and solar lamps, to vulnerable households. The project will further implement community-based activities to prevent and respond to gender-based violence and will support the establishment or strengthening of women-led cooperatives and income-generating activities. The operation will be implemented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in partnership with the National Refugee Assistance Commission, the National Civil Protection Agency, and the Club des Femmes des Savanes pour la Promotion de la Culture. The total project cost is USD 1 million, fully financed through a grant from the African Development Bank’s Special Relief Fund. The financing includes support for registration and documentation, shelter kits, essential relief items, gender-based violence prevention and response, operational support and administrative costs.
