National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Program — Kenya
Kenya · 21 towns across 16 counties · Water supply & sanitation
Overview
The National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Program (NUWSSP) is a Government of Kenya investment program designed to improve access to safe and reliable water supply and sanitation services in selected urban areas across 16 counties. Its first phase covers 24 sub-projects in 21 towns and combines new infrastructure, rehabilitation, last-mile connections, watershed management and institutional strengthening.
The program includes water-treatment plants, transmission and distribution networks, household connections, wastewater-treatment plants, sewer networks, decentralised faecal-sludge treatment and public sanitation. It is expected to add approximately 33,600 m³/day of water-production capacity and 19,378 m³/day of wastewater-treatment capacity.
Following financing approval and procurement preparation, implementation advanced through a national launch workshop held in Nairobi on 8–10 April 2026. Kenya's official development-project register classifies the program as ongoing through 2029.
