Description

The Project to Develop and Equip the Power Transmission Grid (PAERTE) is an investment project aimed at strengthening Tunisia's electricity transmission grid. It is part of the electricity transmission programme of the XIIIth Plan 2016-2020. The project is consistent with Tunisia's energy transition plans. Indeed, the envisage project infrastructure is aimed at integrating renewable energies into the national electricity grid. The PAERTE project is therefore one of STEG's initiatives to strengthen and extend its electricity transmission network before this deadline, with a view to absorbing and transmitting countrywide the large volume of intermittent renewable energy expected from these planned solar and wind power plants. Its completion will make it possible to increase the transit capacity of transmission lines and distribute electricity, thus integrating locally produced renewable energy; reduce technical loss rates; and improve the overall quality of service. The duration of the project physical execution is 48 months from 2020 to 2023 with a total cost estimated at EUR 290 million.
