Description

This intervention relates to the Resilience Building for Food Security and Nutrition in Rural Communities Project co-financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project was designed to maximize the impact of the Programme for Building Resilience to Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the Sahel (P2RS). Indeed, P2RS aims to increase, on a sustainable basis, agro-sylvo-pastoral and fisheries productivity in the Sahel. In addition to the regional component, some countries are implementing their own national projects. P2RS project 1 concerns seven Sahelian countries most affected by food crises, including Chad. This project will serve as the core project for GEF co-financing. The proposed project will seek to restore and maintain the productivity of natural assets within fragile ecosystems by: (i) improving agro-sylvo-pastoral productivity in drylands, (ii) promoting integrated ecosystem management to protect biodiversity, and (iii) knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation. It will strengthen the resilience of communities and households regularly affected by extreme climate-related events, through sustained growth in natural resource productivity thus contributing to improved food security and nutrition in Kanem and Bahr el Ghazal provinces. The project will thus enable stakeholders to contribute to the restoration of biodiversity within fragile ecosystems.
