Sierra Leone Rice Systems Capacity Strengthening Project — Sierra Leone
Sierra Leone · Four target districts in Sierra Leone · Agriculture and food
Overview
The Sierra Leone Rice Systems Capacity Strengthening Project is a US$2.80 million capacity-building and climate-smart agriculture programme designed to increase adoption of sustainable rice-production practices among smallholder farmers in four districts. It uses South-South knowledge exchange, including technical cooperation with Viet Nam, to strengthen production, extension, research and farmer-support systems. The latest World Bank documentation targets 12,000 rice farmers.
Activities include demonstration and learning plots, training in climate-smart rice technologies, capacity development for extension and research personnel, support to farmer organisations, and assistance to youth- and women-led agricultural service enterprises. The project also supports institutional strengthening, monitoring, knowledge dissemination and policy dialogue on more competitive domestic rice production.
The project was launched in October 2024 and is financed by a Japan Social Development Fund grant administered by the World Bank. The first World Bank Implementation Status and Results Report was disclosed on 3 September 2026.
