Rwanda - Nature Based Flood Adaptation to Increase Community Resilience in The Western Part of Rwanda

The Nature-Based Flood Adaptation to Increase Community Resilience in the Western Part of Rwanda project is a climate resilience and water sector operation designed to strengthen the resilience of communities and water infrastructure to flood and landslide risks in western Rwanda. The project combines nature-based flood adaptation measures, eco-smart watershed restoration, climate information and early warning systems, and project management and institutional support. It will finance flood control interventions such as vegetated embankments, river training works, gabions and drainage structures, alongside watershed restoration measures including terracing, agroforestry, afforestation, gully rehabilitation, and rainwater harvesting kits. The total project cost is estimated at UA 10.246 million (USD 14.078 million), financed by an ADF grant through the Climate Action Window of UA 6.862 million (USD 9.428 million) and a Government of Rwanda counterpart contribution of UA 3.384 million (USD 4.650 million) in cash and in kind. The executing agency is the Rwanda Water Resources Board.
