Democratic Republic of Congo - Project for the Reinforcement of Socio Economic Infrastructure in the Central Region - Phase II - (PRISE II)

The second phase of the Project for the Reinforcement of Socio-Economic Infrastructure in the Central Region is in line with the PNEHA 2030 and aims at improving the socio-economic and health conditions as well as the resilience of the Congolese population. PRISE II will finance water, education and health infrastructure in rural areas. It was identified under the National Rural Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (PEASU) developed with ADF funding. The good results obtained by PRISE I, the first phase of its implementation in 5 provinces (construction of 60 schools, 60 health centres, 504 latrines and 60 Drinking Water Supply (DWS), prompted the Government to develop a programme with similar infrastructure in 26 other provinces. This will improve the country's overall health indicators seen in sustainable access to water and sanitation and adoption of good hygiene practices through the building of 22 DWS facilities, 41 schools, 40 health centres and 88 latrines, thus contributing to building people's resilience to climate change. The various activities of the project are grouped into three (03) components: A) development of water supply infrastructure, B) improvement of sector governance and capacity building, and C) project coordination and management. The project's total cost is UA 55.77 million, including UA 50 million financed by an ADF loan and UA 5.77 million government's counterpart contribution. Project implementation will span a period of 5 years.
