The Uganda Biogas and Electric Cooking Project (UBEP) is an infrastructure development project aimed at investing in biogas plants and electric cooking appliances to improve access to clean cooking technologies, thereby supporting Uganda’s Vision 2040 and its Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). This is an ADF CAW grant for an amount of Six Million, Six Hundred and Eighty-Six Thousand, Four Hundred and ThirtyTwo Units of Account (UA 6,686,432) (equivalent to USD 8,785,369). The project is structured into four main components: (i) Development of biogas plants; (ii) Support for the growth of electric cooking appliances; (iii) eCooking Market Support; (iv) Project management. The project's key activities include investment in biogas plants for schools, markets and communities and investment in electric cooking appliances for households. The project will span both urban and rural areas in Uganda. For the electric cooking component, the project will focus on urban locations, including the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) and secondary cities such as Mbarara, Jinja, Mbale, Fort Portal, Gulu, Lira, and Masaka. Special attention will be given to informal underserved settlements within GKMA.
