The project involves the development of 2 single circuit 66kV (approximately 43km each) climate proofed overhead transmission line and strengthening of the network with compensation equipment to allow the evacuation of power from the 120 MW Namaacha wind farm under development. The wind farm project would be located 11km to the north-west of Namaacha town, close to the borders with South Africa and Eswatini. The transmission line will run from the Namaacha wind farm project substation and will connect to the 66KV side of the existing Boane 66/33KV substation. The existing Boane 66/33KV substation will be extended to accommodate additional bays for the two new lines and the STATCOM. The Project is packaged into the following main components : (i) Construction of transmission lines, extension of substations, and compensation devices; (ii) Project management and capacity building; (iii) Implementation of the resettlement action plan (RAP), environmental and social management plan (ESMP), livelihood resilience, and gender action plan (GAP). The total cost of the project is estimated at USD 56.06 million [UC 42.07 million].
