Mozambique · Nationwide · Digital infrastructure

Overview

The Mozambique Digital Acceleration Project is a US$200 million national digital-development programme financed by the International Development Association. Approved by the World Bank on 15 July 2022, it aims to increase digital adoption and inclusion while strengthening the foundations for accelerated digital transformation in Mozambique. Financing became effective on 8 November 2022 and the project is scheduled to close on 31 July 2028.

The programme combines broadband expansion with digital inclusion, affordable access to devices, digital skills, connectivity for educational and public institutions, cybersecurity, data protection and improvements to government digital infrastructure. Its four components allocate US$90 million to digital access and inclusion, US$50 million to foundations for accelerated digital transformation, US$10 million to project management and institutional coordination, and US$50 million to contingent emergency response.

Implementation remains under way. The World Bank’s December 2025 report rated progress toward the development objective Moderately Satisfactory and overall implementation Moderately Unsatisfactory. At that date, 36.45% of IDA financing had been disbursed. Procurement continued during 2026, including major rural-broadband and school-connectivity packages.
