Description

This project, which aims to develop drinking water infrastructure in Bamako, is also part of the Bank's intervention strategy in Mali, defined in the Transition Management Support Strategy Note (NSAGT-2013-2014). The project is expected to contribute to the production of an additional 144,000 cubic meters of water per day, to ensure drinking water supply for the city of Bamako. This volume represents 68% of current production, and will significantly relieve the beneficiaries of the water harvest, especially women. The current low level of drinking water supply in Bamako (36%) greatly justifies the realization of a such project. Pending a supplement to be provided by a second phase planned for 2020, it will increase this rate of access to 60%. In addition to the realization of a treatment station capable of producing the total projected daily volume, and equipped with a warning station to ensure the quality of the water produced, the project will finance (i) 8 water tanks with capacities ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 m3; (ii) a distribution network of 880 Km, representing 53% of the current network; (iii) 66,144 social connections, for the poorest households; and (iv) 1108 standpipes, especially in precarious neighborhoods, the multiplication of these standpipes and their approximation of users contributing to lowering the price of water for these vulnerable populations. The project cost, estimated at UA 238.943 million, will be co-financed with AFD, EU, EIB, WB, IDB, Italian Cooperation and Government. It will executed for 48 months.
