Mali - Mini Hydropower Plants and Related Distribution Networks Development Project (PDM-HYDRO)

This project is related to the development of mini hydroelectric power plants and their associated distribution networks (PDM-HYDRO). It is part of the large-scale renewable energy upgrading program (SREP) approved by the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) in November 2011 for Mali. This multi-donor program includes three investment projects: (i) the SCATEC solar power project (33 MWp) approved by the Bank in October 2016; (ii) the construction project in rural areas of mini solar PV / biofuel hydropower systems (17.7 MWp), financed by the World Bank and approved in October 2013; and (iii) the present mini hydropower project, initiated by the Bank and the African Investment Facility of the European Union (AFIF / EU). The purpose of the PDM-Hydro is to help improve the supply of renewable electricity and to improve access to electricity in the project area. The project comprises the following three (3) components: (i) Construction of Djenné and Talo hydropower infrastructures and their associated distribution networks (ii) Institutional support; iii) Project management. The overall cost is UA 40.08 million and will be implemented over the period 2018-2022.
