Guinea - Project for the realization of detailed studies APD, EIES, DAO

The Guinean government has decided to take a new step towards improving drinking water supply and sanitation conditions for the rural population of the coastal and island zone of Maritime Guinea. This area currently suffers from a severe shortage of modern water points and sanitation infrastructure (latrines), and poor drinking water supply conditions have serious repercussions on the population's state of health (high infant mortality, malaria, cholera epidemics, etc.). The particular conditions of the water resources in this area, and the significant impact that any project is likely to have on the environment, led the government to decide to finance the drinking water supply and sanitation project for the islands and coast (phase 1), based on a technical and economic feasibility study at APS level, financed by BADEA. The actions identified in this study cannot be carried out in a single work phase. Therefore, based on the scope of work indicated, three (03) phases have been planned. In addition, as the current level of study of the project (APS) is insufficient to go towards its Evaluation, the need to carry out the detailed studies (APD), to draw up the tender documents (DAO), and to update the Environmental and Social Impact Studies (EIES) is required for the mobilization of the funds necessary for the execution of these works. The completion of these studies will enable the Guinean government to be technically ready and to mobilize the funds needed to supply the islands and the Guinean coast with drinking water and sanitation. This will improve the living conditions of the island and coastal populations and reduce the disparity in the rate of access to modern water points and sanitation infrastructures, and consequently reduce the rates of morbidity and mortality of water and faecal origin.
