Ethiopia - Addis Ababa Transmission and Distribution System Rehabilitation and Upgrading Project (AATDRUP)

The Addis Ababa Electricity Transmission and Distribution System Rehabilitation and Modernization Project aims to extend access to the electricity grid to approximately 5 million residents of the Ethiopian capital and surrounding urban areas over a radius of 50 km in the regional state of Oromia. The project is structured around three components. The first is the rehabilitation and renovation (in the short and medium term) of transmission and distribution networks in Addis Ababa. The second component is the renovation of the distribution network in the surrounding urban areas of the Oromia region, in line with the government's strategy of broad-based growth, poverty reduction and efficiency improvement in service delivery, which should contribute to inclusive economic transformation. The third component will contribute to the improvement and strengthening of the electricity supply,This should increase power supply capacity, while reducing losses along the grid and facilitate an affordable and reliable power supply for both households and businesses, social services and public buildings, with the key to increasing access rates to electricity, improving the living conditions of the population, business growth and job creation, not to mention economic growth. The total cost of the project is estimated at UA 154.39 million (US $ 209.03 million).
