Djibouti Emergency Food Security Crisis Response Project — Djibouti

Djibouti · Nationwide · drought-affected rural areas · Agriculture and food security

Overview

The Djibouti Emergency Food Security Crisis Response Project is a US$20 million sovereign operation designed to strengthen Djibouti's capacity to withstand food-supply disruptions and severe drought. Approved by the World Bank on 26 October 2022, it is financed through an International Development Association grant and implemented on behalf of the Republic of Djibouti.

The operation combines strategic emergency food stocks, support for drought-affected rural households through water infrastructure and agricultural and livestock inputs, and institutional capacity building for food-security crisis preparedness.

By August 2025, the strategic food stock had reached full capacity and one-third had been rotated. Rehabilitation had been completed on 11 targeted water facilities, while certified seeds and fertilizer had been procured. Following a new drought declaration in June 2025, the Government requested a restructuring. Procurement activity associated with P178988 continued to be published during 2026.
