The Feasibility Study Project for Hydroelectric Developments in Congo follows a request (Ref. No. 322-24 dated July 11, 2024) from the Government of Congo seeking the Bank’s support for the feasibility study of hydroelectric developments at six (6) sites along the Congo River. The project aligns with the Congo’s National Development Plan (NDP 2022–2026). This study aims to prepare future electricity generation projects, thereby contributing to the increase in Congo’s electricity production capacity. It will also incorporate environmental and social studies, as well as gender considerations. The project consists of three (03) components: i) Detailed design study of the hydroelectric developments, including energy evacuation infrastructure, access road studies, and climate change vulnerability analysis; ii) Environmental and social studies, along with a detailed gender analysis; and iii) Project management (audit and operations). The project is financed by a FAT-PRI grant of four hundred and fifty thousand Units of Account (UA 450,000) for conducting the feasibility study of hydroelectric developments at two (2) sites. The planned duration for these studies is eighteen (18) months.
