Description

The Transport Sector Support Project (PAST) aims to improve transport infrastructure services and strengthen national and sub-regional connectivity in Burkina Faso in order to support economic resilience, territorial integration and access to markets. The project focuses on the rehabilitation and development of priority regional and national road corridors, the rehabilitation of a strategic railway section, periodic maintenance of the classified road network, and the establishment of equipped road maintenance units across the country. These investments are complemented by institutional support to strengthen planning, maintenance, road safety and governance in the transport sector, while integrating climate resilience, fragility-sensitive approaches, gender equality and social inclusion. The total cost of the project is UA 410.60 million. The project is financed through an African Development Fund (ADF) loan of UA 60 million, complemented by co-financing from the World Bank (UA 167.20 million), the Islamic Development Bank (UA 153.16 million) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (UA 8.21 million), as well as counterpart financing from the Government of Burkina Faso (UA 22.02 million). The project is implemented under the authority of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Inland Accessibility, with technical execution by the General Directorate of Transport Infrastructure Maintenance (DGEIT), in close coordination with sector stakeholders.
