The proposed intervention involves a UA 20 million ADF financing comprising a UA 10.62 million loan and a UA 9.38 million grant to the Republic of Benin to finance the Milk and Meat Sub-sector Development and Livestock Enterprise Promotion Support Project (PRODEFILAV-PEL). The project will be implemented over a five-year period, from 2022 to 2026. It will prioritize climate-resilient and low-carbon solutions as well as the implementation of innovative financing mechanisms to involve the private sector in the creation and promotion of modern livestock enterprises. PRODEFILAV-PEL will provide livestock enterprises with: (i) easy access to financing and markets; (ii) easy access to best stockbreeding practices and innovative business models; and (iii) an enabling environment for job creation. The project will support young entrepreneurs in designing sound business strategies, thus helping to improve the productivity of milk and meat value chains. It will also contribute to implementing Benin’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Climate Agreement. It is one of the priority projects designed to support the implementation of the country’s revised NDCs.
